Finland, July 1944

“We waited for the arrival of spring flowers and the songs of returning birds, but the remnants of last winter's snow still cling to the ground. With each passing day, it becomes more undeniable that it’s not going anywhere, and perhaps it never will.”

“The skies were filled with smoke and fire; now they are filled with snow and ice. The worst weapon we face now is not man-made—it is the cruel hand of nature itself.”

“We have no idea what's happening, but the Red Devils are relentless in their pursuit of our annihilation even when they too are facing apparent extinction”

"Are the skies enveloped by some dark matter or is the Sun dying"

"We survived the blitz, the bloodshed, but now we face an enemy we cannot fight – an enemy that freezes our very spirit, as well as our bodies. Yet we will not surrender to the cold, no matter how long it lasts. This is not the time for despair. The light will return, and we must hold on for that moment, for the sake of the future generations."

“There is no more future – only the present, frozen in time, where every decision feels like it might be the last”

Most of the frontline has collapsed, any command structure that existed is gone. Anything resembling a war can be found in the south of the country where the Soviets apparently don't care that it's seemingly the end of the world. Even after the general order to retreat deeper into the country, down there our men are trying to stall the soviet advance under hellish circumstances. Any form of machines or tools that are not welded to the ground are being sent west mainly to Helsinki. We don't know what they want to do, most of us just want to see their families for the last time.

On our way west we stumbled upon an outpost of a signal company where we managed to rest, there we learned that Hitler apparently only seemed to pay attention to the war whereas Stalin described the cold as a sign that God was on their side. Everywhere else there was a panic. A few days ago, Helsinki broadcasted this on all frequencies:

"In the face of an eternal winter, we have not faltered. While the world burns and the skies freeze, Finland stands ready with a plan—our survival is not a question of hope but of will. We will endure, for we have no other choice.

Our strength lies in our unity. While the rest of the world squabbles over scraps and war, Finland has found a way forward. We may not have allies, but we have something more—our will to survive. The cold will not consume us, for we have plans that none could foresee."

Then, the message came over the radio

SAARI CALLING SAARI CALLING

SUPPLIES NEVER ARRIVED. WE'RE OUT OF FUEL. WE CAN'T MOVE THE GENERATOR PARTS.

THERE ARE CIVILIANS HERE WITH US TOO AND THE SOVIETS ARE ALMOST AT THE CITY'S GATES. WE CAN'T EVACUATE.

HELSINKI NEEDS THOSE MACHINES—THEY’RE THE ONLY HOPE WE HAVE LEFT. IT WORKS, BUT WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME.

You could clearly hear the sound of artillery and gunfire in the background, something we hadn't heard in weeks, and some were glad they didn't have to listen to them anymore.

Responses came in quick, from individuals to platoons worth of men pledged to come to their rescue while some promised to send the word further to the capital. We decided to help too, those that wanted to of course.

So, we gathered what weapons we could carry and started our walk towards Saari, leaving many of ours behind. If what they say is true, maybe we could live through this nightmare, maybe we could survive what seemed to be an apocalypse.

The feeling many of us didn't feel for months - hope.

"It’s the air... there’s something in it. We can feel it, suffocating us, creeping through every breath. It’s not just the cold—something’s wrong."

 Friendly Advice

This op will be a special one, you need to really work together to make it through. You will be thrown into a nightmare scenario/environment with nothing but your trusty rifle and your bayonet (if issued). Your main objective is to survive this together, you will receive tasks during the op and you are to accomplish them together. Any sort of fuckery that does not stick to what is happening in-game will have consequences.

There are some RP elements that are delivered by the NPC Dialogue system, please don't kill them. RP is not required but it will make it more immersive and I hope some of you will do it with the tools I will provide you.

There is a lot of walking (not for the entirety of this op), but it will be entertaining. I hope once we are done with this op you will understand why I did it this way.

Additional Notes

  • Mission might take up to 2 and a half hours or even more depending on how well you do.
  • The op consists of multiple parts, once you reach a certain objective/moment you will be moved to the next part (next mission will load). You will be notified in-game beforehand. Moving to another part results in your normal End Screen, please don't annihilate each other when that happens.
  • Vanilla Medical with small improvements, everyone can heal each other using IFAKs, due to previous comments the medic role has been liquidated.
  • It is highly advisable to switch special roles every new part just so it's a bit fairer as riflemen have a clear disadvantage.
  • Each role has a premade loadout made in the WBK Kit Menu.
